    Harry Truman signed it because it would make it easier on the army to not have to worry about race or color, you fought together as a team anyway.
  • Brown vs. Board of Education

    Brown vs. Board of Education
    Oliver Brown and the Board of Education was involved. It declared that seperating blacks and whites in schools was unconstitutional and it overturned the Plessy vs. Ferguson case of 1896.
  • Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott
    Martin Luther King and Rosa parks were involved. MLK and his followers protested again the bus company and the results ended up in 1956 the Supreme Court declared segregation on buses illegal.

    The Little Rock Nine were a group of african american students enrolled and central high school in 1957 and they wee not allowed to enter the school by the national guard. The cause of the crisis is raciall integration.

    A Hebrew synagouge was bombed because it refused to fire it's black works and Genral Gordon was respoinsible and stated that any night club or such would be bombed to if it does not fire it's black or hebrew works/aliens

    It was established to study the problem of school integration and it found that many school boards did not want whites to go to school with blacks
  • Integration of the University of GA

    Integration of the University of GA
    Federal District court judge W. A. Bottle ordered the immediate admisson of Hamiltion Holmes and Charlayne to the Uneversity of GA, ending 160 years of segregation at the school
  • Freedom Rides

    Freedom Rides
    The CORE and african americans who rode public transportation. They were testing the Supreme Court's ruling in Boynton vs. Virginia. This resulted in the Interstate Commerce Commission prohibiting segregated tranportaion facilities
  • Albany Movement

    It happened in Albany, Georgia, where the SNCC amd the NAACP were all involved. They wanted the desgration of an entire communtiy and it resulted in the jailing of over 1000 african americans
  • Birmingham, AL protests

    The SCLC were protesting against the unequal treatment of african americans and the resultes were riots where police had to be brought in and used force to stop the riots, even used fire hoses on the protesters.

    MLK was involved and 200,000 to 300,000 blacks, white, and minorites were invloed in the protesting for jobs and freedom.
  • 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham bombed

    16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham bombed
    The bombing was caused by the KKK and they targeted the church because it was meeting place for civil rights leaders such as MLK, but the bomb just killed 4 young girls instead.
  • Jhon F. Kennedy assasinated

    Jhon F. Kennedy assasinated
    John f. Kennedy and his wife were involved. He was assasinated in Dallas, Texas while in the back of his car waving to the crowd by Lee Harvey Oswald.
  • Civil Rights ACt passed in 1964

    It guarenteed equal protection of the laws under the 14th amendment and signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson.

    Voting Rights Act of 1965 passed
    It gave equal voting rights to all citezens and you no longer had to pass a literacy test to vote. It was signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson.

    Police shot a black man accused of being a car theif and thousands of blacks rioted over it.

    It occured at Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He had been killed by James Earl Ray. Atlantas reaction was filled with greif and sorrow but other cites were filled with riots and anger.

    he integration of Georgia schools started with Brown vs. Board of Education. There were many cases like this, the integration of UGA, and the Civil Rights Bill that eventually made Georgia integrate their schools.
