200,000 people marched in hopes to speed the legislative process. They gave speeches and sang while peacefully gathering. This was also the day for the "I Have a Dream" speech.

This act changed the law. There would be no more segregation or discrimination in places serving the general public. There were, however, some constitutional issues raised.

A group consisting of both whites and African Americans that would board southbound interstate buses. They would be met by mobs slitting tires, and throwing rocks and even a firebomb into the buses.

This act put laws that suspended discriminatory devices that voting used, such as literacy tests. It would actually allow for African Americans to vote.
