McCandless graduated
He graduated from Emory University in Atlana. He was a columnist and editor for the student newspaper "The Emory Wheel."Also distinguished himself as a history and anthropology major with a 3.72 grade-point average. He is now very tired of being controlled and done trying to be perfect for his father. -
Ethical Life Begins
After graduation and giving away his entire life savings to charity. Chris McCandless walks away from his family and friends who tried to control his life and is now going to take control and begin his own life and his own journey to Alaska -
When McCandless first met Wayne Westerburg
Wayne Westerburg picked up a hitchhicker who said his name was Alex McCandless. These two end up having a really close relationship but McCandless is still on a trip to Alaska -
McCanddless left Carthage and Westerburg
There was no work at Westerburgs grain elevator for McCandless so he left town to resume his "nomadic existance." His much happier life in the wild continues. -
McCandless reached Morelos Dam and the Mexican border.
McCandless "sneaked into Mexico by paddling through the dam's open floodgates and shooting the spillway below." No obsticals stopped him. -
On the way back to the United States
Spent one night in custody because immigration authorities caught him trying to slip into the country but then contined on his journey of adventure and freedom. -
Bullhead City, Arizona,
McCandless lived in a trailer and starts his job at McDonald's. He stays there for a couple of months opening a savings account and even giving out his real social security number. -
Salton City, California
McCandless went into town for supplies, he was picked up by Ronald Franz who even ended up wanting to adopt McCandless. McCandless is getting closer and closer to Alaska. -
South Dakota, Carthage again
Ronald Franz picks up McCandless and drives him as far as Interstate 70 near Grand Junction, Colorado. McCandless arrives three days later in Carthage, South Dakota, and resumes work for Wayne -
Chris leaves Carthrage again
This morning Chris left again for his long trek to Alaska because its what he has been dreaming of and no one can stop him. -
McCandless met Jim Gallien
Jim Gallien dropped Chris McCandless off at the Stampede Trail in Alaska and saw him smiling and then disappear down a snow covered track. McCandless very happy to be where he is. -
Magic Bus Day
McCandless discovers an abandoned bus. Fairbanks bus 142- his camp site as well as the place where he dies. -
McCandless killed a moose
McCandless shot and killed a 600 pound moose. He's learning to live in the wild and this is something new and exciting for him. -
Starving McCandless
McCandless had been eating wild potatoes... when the root of the potato became bitter, he began collecting the seeds. The seeds went bad and they ended up getting McCandless sick...leading to him starving. -
Chris McCandless' Finial Words
Moose hunters came upon the Magic bus 142 and discovered Chris` body starved and in a sleeping bag. A note written by him stated "I HAVE HAD A HAPPY LIFE AND THANK THE LORD. GOODBYE AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL."
Like Wayne Weterburg said, “if he started a job, he’d finish it. It was almost like a moral thing for him. He was what you’d call extremely ethical. He set pretty high standards for himself,” McCandless finished what he started and lived by what he said and was happy with what he accomplished
