  • Friedrich Froebel

    The first kindergarten started at Children's Garden (Kindergarten) in Germany
  • Children of Poor Women

    The Nursery School for Children of Poor Women was opened and sponsored by Children's Hospital in New York City.
  • First public kindergarten

    First public school kindergarten started in St. Louis
  • NAEYC founded

    National Association for the Education of Young Children is founded. There is currently over 100,000 members and 400 affiliates today.

    National Association for Family Day Care is founded.

    San Francisco becomes the first large city to get developers to set aside space and money for a child care space.

    The Stand for Children Campaign begin. It was created by the Children's Defense Fund.

    The No Child Left Behind Act bill is passed

    President Obama ordered Congress to expand access to high-quality preschool to every child in America which is known as The Preschool for All initiative.
