  • Sent to study at Edinburgh University

Darwin's father sent him to study at Edinburgh University. This played a crucial part in the development of his future theories, due to the fact that other educational institutions commonly shunned and censored certain discussions, whereas here they were allowed and spoken on. What were considered deviant views elsewhere, Darwin was encouraged to some extent to wrestle the larger questions in life.
  • The Beagle Voyage

Beginning in 1831, this five year voyage that changed Darwin to his core would begin. Of this time, he only spent roughly 18 months aboard the ship, due to the fact that he was a naturalist and would travel into the land to do as he pleased. One of Darwin's observations was that the land was changing, as he saw the sea floor, once submerged, above the water line, due to recent volcanic activity.
  • Galapagos Islands

Commonly referred to as Darwin's "Eureka Moment", however, his could not be farther from the truth. He noted the island was crawling with iguanas and giant tortoises, he noted that one species of mockingbird was different varying from island to island. He never, despite common belief, collected tortoise samples.
  • Shift of Creation Origin

Around this time was when Darwin spoke out against the commonly and widely accepted belief, that the creation of life and society was a supernatural event. He spoke that life was created, though still by an omnipresent god, via natural law and not a miracle. This was considered a heretic point of view, but was critical to the philosophy of science to give people a chance to speak out against popular theories.

    Formulated Pivotal Theory

Between these years, when Darwin returned from his voyage around the world, is when he developed his pivotal concept that would forever change how science operated. This voyage included Sydney, Australia, The Canary Islands off the coast of Northern Africa, and most famously, The Galapagos Islands off the coast of South America.
  • Published On the Origin of Species

This is when Charles Darwin published his easily most important piece of work, On the Origin of Species. This book not only provided copious amounts of proof that evolution was real, but also explained how this evolution concept worked. That concept was called Natural Selection.
