    Charles Robert Darwin was born on February 12, 1809, in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.
  • The Voyage of the Beagle 1831 – 1836

    Darwin was offered a position as a naturalist on HMS Beagle, one of the British Royal Navy’s survey ships. Darwin showed specimens of birds he had recorded on the Galapagos Islands. Within a week, ornithologist John Gould studied the specimens and declared that 12 new finch species and a new finch population had been discovered by Darwin.

    Insectivorous plants is published
    Darwin recognized that a plant secretes a fluid that closely relates to an animal's digestive fluid.
