In 1835 Darwin traveled on the Beagle as the ship's naturalist, to the Galapagos Islands on the Pacific Ocean. It is believed that it was on this 5 years trip that he began his interest in studying evolution. On this trip he retrieved biological and geological specimens to study at home in England (Ruse 7-10).

Although a geological book, and not a book about evolution, publishing his book was noteworthy as it helped his scientific reputation (Belanger).

Darwin published his book outlining his theory of evolution. His view that all species including humans descend from other species is explained in this book. He goes into how physical adaptations and modifications can occur in nature because of evolution (Darwin).

To continue the thoughts and teachings about evolution, Darwin writes this book. The theory in this book is that humans evolved from African Apes. He argues in his theory that humans have evolved over and over again for many years just like all other creatures have and will continue to do (Darwin).
