    The HMS Beagle Voyage

    This was Darwin's trip around the world. He spent about five years studying different species of animals all over South America, his most famous stop being in the Galapagos Islands.   • The Galapagos Islands

    On October 8th, 1835 Charles Darwin landed in the Galapagos Islands. He spent five weeks there hopping around the various islands studying the wildlife. Specifically the iguanas, mockingbirds, and finches. He became obsessed with Finches and discovered that there seemed to be different species on each island. This was an early clue that led him to his theory of evolution.

    Zoology of the Voyage of HMS Beagle

    Between 1838 and 1843 he got a 1000 pound grant from Cambridge and hired experts to study the specimens from his trip and published their descriptions in "Zoology of the Voyage of HMS Beagle." This made Darwin well known and liked in London and started to change people's perspectives on non-religious theories. Although, there were still a very large number of people that thought his ideas were blasphemous heresy.
  • Journal of Researches into the Geology and Natural History of the Various Countries Visited by HMS Beagle.

    In 1839 he published his journal from the HMS Beagle, calling it "Journal of Researches into the Geology and Natural History of the Various Countries Visited by HMS Beagle. This was his first publication and helped to get his name out there into the small scientific community. Darwin, Charles.   • On the Origin of Species By Means of Natural Selection

    Darwin began writing his book, originally called "Natural Selection" in April of 1856. By this time he has immense scientific authority. He finished his book in 1858 and it was first sold on November 22nd, 1859. This is where he really got his theory of evolution by natural selection out into the world and people started to take notice. His theories are still believed to this day. Darwin, Charles.   • Death
