  • Darwinian Revolution

    Darwinian Revolution
Charles Darwin started his own scientific revolution with his proposal of natural selection. This new theory stated that "population growth would lead to a struggle for existence". He went on to explain that survival will favor the ones whos genetics set them up for success. If a plant was more prone to disease then another, then it will eventually die out and the more hardy one will reproduce. Thus natural selection has favored the "stronger" plant. (Evolution)
  • Geological Observations

    Geological Observations
In this book, Charles went to south Africa to study coral reefs and volcanic activity. During his studies he theorized that coral reefs would be more diverse the further into the ocean you got. He also assumed that the maximum depth coral could live at was 1525 meters. This was later confirmed to be 1405 meters. Not that far off for having a study limit of only 100 meters. It was later discovered that coral is more diverse in deeper water. (The Structure and Distribution of Coral Reefs)
  • The Origin of Species

    The Origin of Species
Darwin discusses how certain animals could evolve due to hardships into a completely new species. He talks about how as more creatures are born and go through the same hardships, more evolutionary changes occur. Mutations will be made and it will either strengthen the creature or kill it off. In the book he talks about the Galapagos turtle and how its evolution from a normal turtle to a massive creature helped it survive. This showing how evolution can create new species. (Desmond)
  • The Descent of Man

    The Descent of Man
The Descent of Man was a book that Charles Darwin published. This book dove deeper into the evolutionary process that Charles had become known for. In here he describes the evolutionary process of humans, and how sex/race plays a part in that process. He goes on to explain how the different races are not different species of human. However they are two of the same that evolved differently to their surroundings to survive. (The Descent of Man)
