In 1869 William Seward retired. Before this, he considers acquiring the Hawaiian Islands. -
Queen Liliuokalani
In 1891, Queen Lilioukalani became the leader of Hawaii. She took over as leader after the dealth of the former King, her brother. -
Base at Pearl Harbor
U.S. leaders pressured Hawaii into allowing a U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor. This allowed for refueling of many ships going across the Pacific. -
Planters
American Planters in Hawaii staged a revolt. They did this with help of the U.S. Marines. -
U.S.S. Maine
President McKinley sent the U.S.S. Maine to Cuba. It was dispatched to protect U.S. citizens. -
Withdrawel of Spanish Forces
President McKinley demanded the withdrawel of Spanish forces from Cuba. Spain refused, as a result, a war broke out. -
