  • Squanto

    Squanto
    Pawtuxet Indian, later of the Wampanoag tribe in what is now Massachusetts. He was captured by an English sea captain and taken to Spain to be sold into slavery. He escaped, made his way to England, and from there returned to North America. He befriended the Pilgrims in Plymouth Colony in 1621 and acted as their interpreter and adviser on planting and fishing.
