  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    This act placed taxes on all sugar and molasses. It was made to gain money and punish the colonists. This Act was against all of the Colonists. It was also known as the American Revenue Act. This led to the start of boycotting items.
  • Commitees of Correspondence

    Commitees of Correspondence
    A group of colonists meetin to coordinate actions against Britian. It was created to gain freedom from Britian. Each commitee contacted with other towns and colonies. Its members shared ideas and information about new British laws and ways to challenge them.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    Stamp Act of 1765
    This act was made to pay British troops protecting the American frontier. It placed taxes on all paper products that the Colonists bought. This included newspaper, playing cards, and all documents.
  • Sons of Liberty

    Sons of Liberty
    Colonists formed a secret group called the Sons of Liberty. Samuel Adams founded the group in Boston. This group used violence to scare tax collecters. They rebelled against the new British laws and taxes.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    Parliament placed taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. British officials used the system, writs of assistance. This allowed tax collecters to search for smuggled goods. This angered the colonists, so the Sons of Liberty attacked officials' houses.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    A British soldier had gotten into an argument with a colonist, and hit the man. a crowd came to the mans' side and began throwing snowballs at the soldier. The soldiers ultimately killed 5 colonists, and were tried for murder.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Parliament passed the Tea act in 1773. This allowed the British East India Company to sell tea directly to the colonists. Many ships arrived into Boston harbor frightening the colonists that their businesses would soon fail.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Members of the Sons of Liberty and a few colonists disguised themselves as Indians and boarded three ships. When they were on the 3 ships belonging to the British East India Company, they dumped 340 tea chests directly into the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Prliament passed the Coercive Acts, which colonists called the intolerable Acts. It gave several effects. 1. Boston Harbor was closed until Boston paid for the ruined tea. 2. Massachusetts charter was canceled. Governor decided if and when the legislature could meet. 3. Royal officials accused of crime were sent to trials in Britian. this gave them a more friendly and fair trial. 4. Quartering Act required colonists to house British soldiers. 5. Quebec Act gave colonys' land to Quebec.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress
    This was a gathering of colonial leaders who were deeply troubled about Great britian and the colonies. Took plcae in Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia. They told the colonists to prepare for war against britian to gain freedom.
