Japan found interest in Manchuria, China (wanting to invest in economy there bc of increases in population & need for raw materials). After the depression, the army in Manchuria took advantage of land. Soon, the military wouldn’t listen to leaders in Japan. Therefore, people trading with Japan backed out but Japan would join the Axis Powers and get certain materials back.

Germany was rearmed by Adolf Hitler (i.e created an air force). This went against the Treaty of Versailles bc of large amounts of military/arms they shouldn't have. Hitler found the Treaty of Versailles unjust & wanted to show that Germany could handle themselves. The result was Germany getting strength as no one stopped them.

Italy invaded Ethiopia because Italy’s, Benito Mussolini, wanted to conquer it. The Italians won this second time around due to the lack of power from the Ethiopian army. The result was that the League of Nations did nothing and Italy won over Ethiopia (elected positions and everything).

After the monarchy was voted out, Spain was left in chaos due to the newness of its gov. The right-wing were Nationalist (Italy & Germany favored) and left-wing Republican parties (USSR favored); both fought to rule. Germany invaded Austria on account that they were ‘pleaded’ to provide aid there. Hitler wanted the Union but the Austrian president was not as persisted as Hitler on certain agreements. Hitler therefore, forced himself in even bullied the President to get what he wanted. As a result, Hitler conquered Austria and it was apart of Germany.

Wanting to expand the country, Adolf Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia to give Germans ”more room”. Although being in the Munich Pact, Hitler kept wanting more and more out of the country. The result was that Hitler gained access to Czech. and its resources, especially in getting them have Slovakia be independent.

Germany first, & then the USSR, invaded Poland and started WWII. Germany wanted access to eastern Poland as one step closer to controlling Europe. However, Britain and France threatened backing up Poland once invaded; once it was, the allied countries were seemingly nonexistent. After various attempts, Poland lost & was divided between Germany (east) & the Soviet Union (west).
