  • Constitution of 1824

    Constitution of 1824
    Who- The Mexican Government
    When- 1824
    Where- In Texas that was at that time owned by Mexico
    What- The Mexican Government made this constitution so that Texas could be governed appropriately .
    Why- Mexico wanted control of Texas and did not want the U.S to take Texas for themselves.
    How- The Mexican gov. wrote out this constitution and applied it to their state of Texas which they owned.
  • Fredonian Rebellion

    Fredonian Rebellion
    Who- the Edwards brothers and the Mexican government.
    What- a dispute between the Edwards brothers and the Mexican government.
    When- 1826.
    Where- East Texas.
    Why- Mexico got mad at the Edwards brothers, so the cancelled their contract. Edwards then made an alliance with Cherokee Indians and declared the "Republic of Fredonia" independent of Mexico.
    How- Edwards tried to rally Anglo settlers in the Austin, DeWitt, DeLeon colonies and other areas of Texas to join his revolution, but failed.
  • Mier y Teran Report

    Mier y Teran Report
    Who- Mier y Teran
    What- He went to scout Texas and make suggestions on things that should be done. He said that very strong measures should be taken to prevent the U.S. from taking Texas. He also said that Mexican Texas should hve more European and Mexican settlers. A lot of the tings he uttered were included n the Law of April 6, 1830.
    When- 1827.
    Where- Texas.
    Why- The president told him to, and he got permission.
    How Teran expressed this report by telling the Mexican gov. what to fix.
  • Guerrero Decree

    Guerrero Decree
    Who- President Vicente R. Guerrero
    What- a decree that abolished slavery throughout the Republic of Mexico.
    When- September 15, 1829.
    Where- Mexico.
    Why- He hoped that the decree would be a check on American immigration.
    How- He was President so he could write a decree.
  • Law of April 6, 1830

    Law of April 6, 1830
    Who- Mier y Teran and the Fredonian Rebellion.
    What- This law restricted immigration into Texas from the U.S, Made slavery illegal, and suspended empresario contracts. The people were disturbed by these new conditions so SFA convinced the government to only enforce some laws.
    When- 1830.
    Where- Texas.
    Why- The government thought these changes were needed in order to create a more perfect Texas.
    How- The president and gov. agreed with these laws and were allowed to pass them.
  • Turtle Bayou Resolutions

    Turtle Bayou Resolutions
    Who- Santa Anna, Texas Rebels
    What- Texas Rebels had just been told that the federalist army had won a battle with Santa Anna. They sided with the federalist army and told them that their attack at Anahuac was not Anglo's against Mexico
    When- June 12 1832
    Where- Turtle Bayou
    Why- They made these resolutions so that there would be more peace between the Mexican Government and Texas people
    How They make communication with the Fed army and said that they are for the Constitution.
  • Battle of Velasco

    Battle of Velasco
    Who- Texan and Mexican forces, Texan forces were led by Henry Smith(in the picture) and John Austin.
    What- most likely the first case of bloodshed in the relations between Mexico and Texas. Texas won the fight.
    When- June 26, 1832.
    Where- Fort Velasco.
    Why- The Texans attempted to retrieve a cannon, and the Mexicans tried to stop them.
    How- Mexico ran out of ammunition and was forced to surrender.
  • Convention of 1832

    Convention of 1832
    Who- Texan delegates.
    What- The delegates elected Stephen F Austin as president of the convention. At this convention they wrote a constitution but never showed it to Mexico City.
    When- October 1-6, 1832.
    Where- San Felipe de Austin.
    Why- to establish plans, elect a president, make requests to modify laws, and more.
    How- Delegates were sent to the place so that a meeting could be held.
  • Conflict at Anahuac

    Conflict at Anahuac
    Who- Juan Davis Bradburn, William B. Travis, other Anglo settlers
    What- Bradburn arrested Anglo settlers, so settlers captured Bradburn's men. The matter was resolved when Piedras (Bradburn's boss) removed Bradburn and turned over the Anglo prisoners.
    When- June 9, 1832
    Where- Texas
    Why- Bradburn got mad at Travis and Jack, so he arrested them and other Anglo settlers.
    How- Bradburn had the power to arrest people.
  • Convention of 1833

    Convention of 1833
    Who- 56 Texan delegates, including Sam Houston
    What- meeting that SFA was not there for because he was going to San Antonio to get support from them. The delegates held a meeting and with the same resolutions of 1822 but they drafted a constitution for the independence of Texas. They sent this information to Mexico City and sent SFA.
    When- April 1, 1833.
    Where- San Felipe.
    Why- They could not wait for SFA to get back to hold another meeting.
    How- the delegates got together to hold the meeting.
  • SFA goes to Mexico City

    SFA goes to Mexico City
    Who- SFA
    What- He got The govt to reform the Law of April 6, 1830. He was arrested for "trying to incite insurrection in Texas" No charges were held against him. He was released in December but not aloud to leave MX City
    When- 1833
    Where- Mexico City
    Why- He went to Mexico city to deliver resolutions to MX City and argue for approval.
    How SFA was told to go and show the new resolutions to MX City this is how he ended up in Mexico in the first place.

    The Consultation
    Who- Texan delegates and Branch T. Archer, who was elected president of the Consultation of 1835
    What- a debate between opposing groups, one that wanted to continue diplomatic relations with Mexico, and the other, which wanted to claim Texas' independence immediately
    When- late October to early November, 1835
    Where- San Felipe
    Why- the Texans needed to know what to do next.
    How- delegates attended the meeting, but many of them couldn't make it because of the continuing fighting against Mexico.
