    The compromise of 1850 where 5 acts that were passed to help deal with the problems of slavery. The five acts were the fugitive slave law, no slave trade, Californa becomes a free state, etablish a terriroty for Utah, and sets bounderies for Texas
  • Harriet Beecher Stowe

    Harriet Beecher Stowe
    Harriet Beecher Stowe was known as one of the most influential women of the 19th centuray. She was a writer who is believe to be one of the main causes of the Civil War. She wrote a book called "Uncle Tom's Cabin" which is a book about a slave named Tom who was taken away from his family and sold. Tom saves a girl named Eva who later buys Tom and they become friends. Eva becomes ill and dies. Tom is later sold to another slave owner who eventually beats h Tom to death for freeing 2 slaves.

    The Kansas Nebraska Act
    The Kansas Nebraska Act was proposed by Stephen Douglas. It created to go aganist the Missouri compromise and slip the country into two. This act gave Nebraska and Kansas the option to vote for or against slavery. This also sparked the "Bleeding Kansas" which is another cause of the Civil War.

    Bleeding Kansas was a terrible period of time in Kansas. There were many violent outbreaks between pro-slavery and anti-slavery protestors to try and convice to people who lived in Kansas to vote for their side. 55 people were killed in total and this lasted for 6 years.

    John Brown
    John Brown was an abolitionist who went to Kansas during the Bleeding Kansas. He traveled their with fives of his sons and a group of pro-slavery men raided the anti-slavery town of Lawerence. Brown wanted revenge and him and his five sons attacked a group of cabins and five people were killed including one of the sons.

    Dred Scott was a freed slave who moved to the north. Dred Scott filed lawsuits for freedom becasue he was living in a free state but he was a slave from the south.

    The Lincoin- Douglas debates
    This was when Lincoin and Douglas had debates and fought for their seats in the senate. They were both anit-slavery but Lincoin won the debats
  • The Harpers Ferry Raid

    The Harpers Ferry Raid
    This was a raid on a federal amory in Harpers Ferry led by John Brown. John Brown wanted to armt he slaves and he was publicly hanged for this.
