    Causes of the American Revolution

  • End of the French and Indian War

End of the French and Indian War
    British
    In 1754
The British and French colonists went to war.
British wanted more land for farming
Just so that they wouldn’t be starving.
    After seven years,
    The British said cheers!
    They had won the war,
    But were in debt more.
    So regular goods got taxed,
And the colonists were no longer relaxed.
  • The Proclamation of 2763 continued

1763 The Colonists felt outraged. They felt like this because they believed the King didn't want to protect them.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
Proclamation The Proclamation of 1763 was telling the colonists they couldn’t move west. This was because after the French and Indian War while colonists were moving onto the Ohio River Valley the Indians were attacking them for coming on their land. In response King George III sent soldiers to protect them at first. After a while, King George III didn’t want to have to keep protecting them so he made the Proclamation of 1763 saying that the colonists couldn’t move on land west of the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    SugarDear Diary,

Yesterday my father told me that our sugar was gonna be taxed. The King already told us we couldn’t move west and now he wanted to tax our sugar too! When out, I heard men ranting about how there should be no taxation without representation. Parliament has no right to tax us with no say. My family and I, we are boycotting sugar though this is easier said then done. Tea tastes bland without sugar. Others are smuggling in the sugar. They must realize that they will be punished.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    StampSpecial Tax stamp
    Any legal document
    Made
Petitions for the King Added anger turning to violence
    Can not have
    Taxation without representation
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    Quartering ActDear Diary,
Today I came home to find British soldiers in my room! After complaining to my mother, I found out that this was a result of the new act, the Quartering Act. Now, we’re being forced to house these ugly soldiers in our own home. I, along with the rest of the colonists, are outraged! The king has directly violated our rights! Violence towards soldiers is increasing thanks to this act.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
Townshend Act Another act from Parliament came.
    It was totally insane.
It was on objects like glass, paper, and tea.
    The tax wasn’t very wee.
    This was the Townshend Act.
    And that is a fact.
It also allowed officers to search ships
    Using their Writs…
Of Assistance. They wanted to find
    Goods of a smuggled kind.
They did boycotts to say no,
It was time for the act to go.
So they signed a non-importation agreement
    In attempt to rebel.
  • Boston Masscre

    Boston Masscre
    MassacreDear Diary,
A terrible thing occurred. My father died in the Boston Massacre of 1770. The Boston Massacre was terrible chaos. It started when a colonist was talking to a soldier. Next thing you know, a crowd gathered because the soldier hit the man with his gun. My father was in this crowd. Soon, other British soldiers arrived. They heard “fire” and shot off into the crowd, killing 5 people. My father was one of them. The evil British caused this pain, and they should be the ones dead.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
Tea ActThe Tea Act of 1773 allowed colonists to import British Tea directly from India. Parliament saw this as a compromise to the colonists. The tea was cheaper, but however still taxed. The colonists didn’t like this at all and wouldn’t agree because they saw this as a trick to be taxed without representation. In response, the colonists did the Boston Tea Party.

    Boston Tea party
    Dear Man Journal,
Yesterday me and some men were just sharing some drinks, when we found ourselves dressed as Indians and sneaking onto a British ship to dump tea. We felt that since we don’t accept the tea we would get rid of it. The British were steaming and passed the Intolerable acts as punishment. Nobody quite likes this, but I am more afraid for my life then these punishments.
  • Coercive/Intolerable Acts

    Coercive/Intolerable Acts
    Intolerable ActsParliament
Had made these acts as a punishment
For the colonists so that they would behave.
After the colonists were in a rave.
    The colonists dumped tea overboard,
    Got these acts in reward.
    The harbor was closed,
    Meetings were opposed.
    In result
    They were to revolt.
The first continental congress was held
To decide what would happen when they rebelled

    The acts were….
    The Intolerable Acts
    (slash Coercive Acts)
  • The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress
CongressThe first Continental Congress was held on September 5, 1774. It was held to discus what to do about the Intolerable Acts. It was a meeting of representatives from 12 of the 13 colonies and took place in Philadelphia. They decided to demand a repeal of the Intolerable Acts and told all colonies to train militias in case war broke out. They also decided to have new boycotts.
  • Paul Revere's Ride

    Paul Revere's Ride
Paul In the Old North Church people have to agree,
They saw 2 lights so the British were coming by sea.
Suddenly as the night went by,
There were lights in the sky.
    Paul Revere saw the lights
And jumped on his steed of night.
He rode of into the dark
    Telling this remark,
    “The British are coming!”
Soon, he was joined by 2.
    Through the night they flew.
They were captured by British soldiers
Then let go by certain orders.
They kept warning to the end,
When the Battle of Lexington was to begin
  • The Battle of Lexington and Concord

The Battle of Lexington and Concord
    Battle
    After Paul ran his ride,
Minute Men went into a line
They waited for the coming British
All knew they would not be skittish
The first shot shot is unknown
As to who the goblet was thrown
It is called the shot heard around the earth
Since it gave a wide berth…
    for others to join
    in the action
