Causes of the American Revolution

  • Proclamation Act.

England gains the land that the French had owned, but the King does not allow the colonists to expand and they "draw" a line along the Appalation Mountains. The King did this because there were still Indians in the land they just won and they weren't ready to go to war again. The Colonists get upset because they were over populating and decide to cross the line anyways. When they cross the line, they get attacked by Indians, and report it, where they get yelled at for crossing the line.
  • The French and Indian war

1754-1763: France wants the land England owns, so they made business partners with the Indians and sent them into the war with England first. The French realised that if they teamed up with the Indians and sent them in first, then they would have a better shot at beating the British. The British know about the French's plan, and decide to pay the Spanish with money and land for their military. The British win the war because of that advantage, and gained France's land.
  • Quartering Act

1764-1775: The King sent soldiers to "protect" the colonists and the colonists have to supply the soldiers with anything the soldiers need. The soldiers kept the colonists from publically assembling and talking bad about the king.
  • Stamp Act

The King punished the Colonist for crossing the line by creating the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act put a tax on anything printed. This Act really only effected the people in New England cities. These colonists get upset by this because it wasn't fair and decide to backfire the act by riping up any printing paper, and not buying the printed items.
  • The Boston Massacre

Colonists peacfully gathered so they could talk to the tax collector about the unfairness of the King. Another group of colonists were there to get revenge on the tax collector and the soldiers for killing a little boy named Christopher Snyder. Someone yelled fire and the soldiers shot into the crowd killing 5 people.
  • The Tea Act

The King made sure he was the only tea business by cancelling any other shipments of tea. The colonists can't grow tea in the colonies either. John Hancock was a friend of the king who owed a shipping business and when the king enforced the tea act, Johns business was affected and he was betrayed by the king.
  • Boston Tea Party

The colonists were upset by the tea act and decided to dress up as Indians, and sneak on to the Kings boats holding the tea, and dumped all of it overboard. This was considered an act of economic terrorism because it cost the king millions of dollars. The king was very upset about this.
  • Intolerable Act

This act cuts off all shipping, doubles the military and is cutting off Boston from the world. Colonists are finally fed up and decide they want freedom. This act was specifically to punish colonists from Boston. This led to the Declaration of Independence.
