  • French/Indian Wars

    French/Indian Wars
    In the first battle of the wars, the french had delivered a crushing defeat to the outnumbered Virginians and to their leader 22-year-old officer named George Washington. In a second battle Washington and the Native ambushed the British and the soldiers turned and fled.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Britian passes the Stamp Act, a tax law requiring colonists to purchase special stamps to prove payment of tax. Colonists were furious over the Stamp Acts and started to boycott British goods, and prepared a Declaration of Rights.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    Britian taxes certain colonial imports and stations troops at major colonial ports to protect customs officers. Colonists prtest "taxation without representation" and organize a new boycott of imported goods.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    Taunted by an angry mob of colonists. British troops fired upon the crowd and five colonists died. Colonial agitators label the conflict a massacre and publish a dramatic engraving depicting the violence.

    General Gage orders troops to march to Concord, Massachusetts, seized all colonists weapons.Paul Revere and others spread the word that the British are coming.Minutemen intercept the British and engage in the battle. First at Lexington, and then at Concord.
