The reason the compromise of 1850 was a factor of the civil was because it had Utah and New Mexico to decide for themselves whether to be a slave state or a free state, and admitted to return all escaped slaves to there origin owner even in they escaped to a free state. This small action is a factor of the civil war because this is where the dispute of slaves started. -

The creation of the republican party
The republican party was made to stop the expansion of slavery. But the southerners need to expanded for growth and they wanted to bring there slaves with them. This caused even more conflicts between the two sides. -
The Kansas Nebraska Act
This act it self caused a lot of violence between pro-slavery people vs anti-slavery people. This is due to the fact that a lot of both groups flooded in to the state to sway the vote. -
John Browns Raid
This raid was lead by john brown was its plan was to take over the marine armory. In the small army of 18 people john lead these people to the federal arsenal to take all the weapons. Although it was not successful and john was hung for treason and others were killed, this raid sent a loud message to all the people saying it gonna need more then 18 men to take over and win this battle. -
Lincoln won the election
This event was a big one to which Lincoln won the election and had striked fear into many southern due to his ant slavery views which causes even more separation on both sides. -
South Carolina Secedes
South Carolina sees whats coming after Lincoln is elected and secede from the compromise and this started a domino effect to which many other states also secede.
