    WWI is over and the causes of WWII bagin.
  • League of Nations Formed

    This was supposed to be a step towards international diplomacy.
  • Benito Mussolini Elected Prime Minister of Italy

    His Fascist views would be important to the rise of Hitler in Germany.
  • France Occupies the Ruhr in Germany

    They demanded their reparations which Germany had been falling behind on.
  • The United States Stock Market Crashes

    This would lead to a worldwide depression.
  • Japan Invades Manchuria

    The first major imperialistic move by the Japanese. The League does nothing to stop it.
  • Hitler Becomes Chancellor of Germany

    He would rise to complete power shortly after.
  • Japan Withdraws from the League of Nations

    They were not punished for this action.
  • Germany Withdraws from the League of Nations

    Like Japan, this was the way Germany could begin to do what it wanted.

    This effectivly brings the US out of isolationism and into full blown war mode.

    This brings the US into the war in Europe.

    This is the nail in the coffin for Germany.
  • Germany Surrenders to the Allies

    Known as VE day.
  • Garmany Divided into 4 Occupation zones.

    Three were occupied by the Western nations France, Britain, and the US, while the last was occupied by the USSR.
  • First Atomic Bomb is dropped on Hiroshima, Japan

    This marked the first use of atomic warfare in history.
  • Second Atomic Bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan

    As the bombs drew closer to Tokyo, Japan knew it had to surrender.
  • Japan Surrenders, ending WWII

    All Axis Powers have surrendered to the Allies. Known as VJ day.
  • Japan Would remain under US control

    Again not an exact date but a general timeframe.
