  • Lincoln MacCauley Alexander

    Lincoln Alexander was the first Black Canadian member of parliament, cabinet minister, and lieutenant-governor
  • Montreal Massacre

    Montreal Massacre
    Marc Lepine walked into an engineering classroom at the University of Montreal's Ecole Polytechnique and ordered all the men to leave. He then lined up the woman and said," You are all feminists and I hate feminists." he then opened fire at the women. He continued around the University for 20 minutes, shooting 28 people, killing 14 women and then committed suicide.

  • Creation of Nunavut

    Creation of Nunavut
    Nunavut which means "our land" in the Inuit language Inuktitut, entered Confederation in 1999 as Canada's third territory and newest member of the country
  • 9/11

    Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked 4 commercial airplanes and used them to attack the US. the terrorists flew 2 of the planes into the World Trade Centre Towers in New York City. The third plane was flown into the Pentagon the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense. The fourth plane was flown towards Washington D.C. the capital of the US but crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers tried to stop them. Almost 3000 people died as a result of the attacks including 26 Canadians.
  • Equal Marriage Rights

    It was illegal until 1968. 14 years later when the Charter of Rights and Freedoms was created and signed it was not mentioned making it once again illegal. many gay, lesbian, and bisexual people were afraid to come out in fear of discrimination. Finally in 2003 be gay was finally legalized. To this day families are disowning their children for being gay, lesbian or bisexual due to religious beliefs and just not liking the fact that sexual orientation was legal
  • The 2008 Apology

    Stephen Harper and Chief Phil Fontaine gathered in the house of commons for an apology from the Canadians who put the indigenous people through torture by taking their children and putting them in residential schools to make them more Canadian.
  • Idle No More

    Idle No More activists argued that the Act’s changes diminished the rights and authority of Indigenous communities while making it easier for governments and businesses to push through projects without strict environmental assessment
  • Canada 150 Controversy

    the government wanted to spend half a billion dollars on Canada Day events while other important thing were not getting paid very much. Some people think its a good idea to celebrate 150 years of Canada being a country and some think that its a bad idea for celebrating 150 years of brutal colonization.
