    The Aroostook War
    Land disputes arose between lumbermen from Maine and New Brunswick. This lead to the Aroostook War in the Aroostook River valley. The border between Maine and New Brunswick was finally settled with the signing of the Webster-Ashburton Treaty in August of 1842, ending the Aroostook War.

    The U.S. declares war on Britain , beginning the War of 1812. Americans under General William Hull invade Canada from Detroit. Canadians are victorious at the Battle of Queenston Heights . The Red River settlement is begun in Canada's northwest (Aug.-Oct.) on lands granted to Lord Selkirk by the Hudson's Bay Company.
