    Canada, being a British ally was automatically thrust into the war at the commence. The war cost the Canadian government millions of dollars per day with the weapons and recruitment process both costing a fortune. This negatively impacted Canada as without the war, Canada would have developed much more smoothly and would have possibly had a bigger economy to this day. Canada would not have suffered the great depression, which ultimately led to an even bigger loss in WW2.

    Chlorine gas was one of the deadliest weapons in WW1 as a fast spreading and killing chemical weapon. This gas had no perfect solution which may have prompted Dr.Cluny Macpherson to invent the gas mask while a part of the NewFoundland regiment.     Under the pressure to create newer and more advanced technology during the war, the National Research Council was founded during the year 1916. After the war the NRC continued their research creating and helping in the innovation of Canadian technologies such as air and train travel, radar and standard ammunition sizes. This organization proved beneficial to Canada and their inventions helped shape Canada’s future as they improved the lives of average citizen, the military.

    Women in the 1900’s constantly fought to grant women's suffrage . However, on January 28th, 1916, Manitoba became the first province in Canadian history to grant women the right to vote and golf office by announcing women's suffrage. Giving equal rights to both men and women was a step towards a more equal and advanced society.

    The battle of Vimy Ridge is perhaps the most infamous battle in Canadian history. This battle had taken the lives of little over 30000 soldiers inuring another 7,000. This was the first time that all four Canadian nations had fought together. This helped unite the nation as Canadians from the east coast to the west had all felt the devastating losses . Without the battle Canada may not have gained the recognition it has today.

    Conscription is the act of forcefully drafting citizens into the war. Sir Borden had announced Conscription for Canada in Canada. During this time, this Conscription caused a rift between the English and the French as the French felt no loyalty towards Britain while the English supported the war. The negatively impacted Canada’s communities and however was an unavoidable sacrifice in victory. Canada emerged victories due to the available troops caused by the enlistments.

    Two massive ships collided at the port of Halifax at 8:45 causing a massive explosion. This explosion killed 1,800 people and injured 9000. This tremendously negatively impacted Canada. A terrible accident had caused thousands of people to pass away and millions of dollars in property damage.

    The Germans signing of the armistice agreement with the allies on June 28th, 1918 had marked the end of the first world war. Canada had lost a significant portion of its population with a death toll of 66,000 citizens. However, the great war had given Canada recognition. Canadas started the war viewed as an extension of Britain, and finished with the recognition and respect from the allies and fear from the triple entente.

    Regarded as the worst epidemic in recent history, the Spanish Influenza was widespread throughout the world from 1918 to 1919. This virus heavily affected Canada, killing nearly 55,000 citizens, most being young adults from the ages of 20-40.

    The Founding of the Number Two Construction Battalion
    Due to racism and segregation by the Canadian government, Black Canadians were not permitted to serve in the great war. However, when the catholic volunteer number grew thin, black Canadians were given a chance to serve as a part of the Number Two Construction Battalion. This lion did not combat related tasks such as building and digging the trenches, loading and carrying the ammunition, and defusing landmines. These men also proved useful in battle carrying wounded soldiers out of harm's way.
