  • Quebec's Padlock Law

    The Padlock Law was made by the Union National government, Maurice Duplersis.
    This law was invoked to prevent Communist propaganda.
  • Gouzenko Affair

    Igor Gouzenko was a Soviet spy assigned to the Soviet Embassy in Ottawa in 1943. Igor found out that the Soviet Intelligene had many spy networks, with their main goal being to steal the secrets of the Atomic bomb. Igor heard that him and his family was being shipped back to Russia, so he told Canadaian officials the Soviets plans. Igorgave 18 out of 34 people who convicted of criminal activity.
  • NATO

    The Soviets were trying to spread the Communist system so Canada and the US wanted democracy and were concerned about National security. So Belgium, Britian, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and the US created NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). NATO is a protection pact to stop Soviet aggression and defend eachother if enemy attacks
  • Berlin Blockade

    The Soviets wanted all of Berlin so the Soviets put up a Blockade to block all supply lines to the Allied side, west Berlin. Allies air- lifted food and other supplies to west Berlin. Canada and th US tried to form a plan to stop Soviets aggression.
  • Korean War

    koreanCommunist North Korea and China decided to attack anit-communist South Korea who was supported by the US. The US called in the UN to defend South Korea. Canada was ranked third in aid for South Korea. Canada lost many men before the truce to stop shooting was invoked. Canadian soilders were asked to stay in Korea until 1955 to maintain the uneasy truce.

  • Warsaw Pacts

    The Soviets created a pact called the Warsaw Pact which was formed by the countries behind the "iron curtain" who were all Communist. This included Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Soviet.
    Communist Yugoslavia rejected the pact, because they feared the Soviets would control every country part of the Wasaw Pact.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik was the first artificial Earth satellite launched into space. The Sputnik was made by the Soviets. The Spuntik made many political, military and scientific devolopements. Later the US found out that the rocket that put Sputnik into orbit couls also be used to give nuclear waread to all of North America which caused a lot of contorversy.
  • Bomarc Missiles and Nuclear Warheads in Canada

    John Diefenbaker allowed 56 American-made Bomarc missiles in Ontario and Quebec acting according to the NORAD clause. In 1960 their was a lot of Canadaian controversy about allowing nuclear weapons on Canadaian soil. Diefenbaker became unsteady and called an ellection that was won by Lester B. Pearson who later allowed the Bromac missile in Canada.
  • NORAD and DEW

    The North American Air Defence (NORAD) was signed by Canada and the Us with agreement to protect eachother if the enmy missiles attack. Canada allowed the US to put up defence protection in NWT to make Distant Early Warning (DEW) radars were put along DEW lines that allow Canada and the US to know when enmy missles and aircrafts are coming from at most 4800km away.
  • Avrow Arrow

    The Avrow Arrow was an advanced fighter jet built by Canadians. In 1959, 5 Arrows had been succesfully flown. On Feb. 20, 1959 John Diefenbaker announced the cancellation of the Avrow Arrow because the cost to run the Avrow Arrow was costing way to much. The cancellation costed $470 million costing 14,000 Canadians their jobs.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    American spy planes saw the Soviets missile sites in Cuba and made a navl blockade around Cuba. Canada suggested that the US should have the missile bases be examined by experts but the blockade stayed. The Soviet ships left Cuba later on that year ending the Cuban Missile Crisis.
  • Vietnam War & Draft Dodgers

    Canada did not fight in the Vietnam war due to the amount of people who avoided miatay service called "draft dodgers" the draft dodgers supported Canadas choice in sending aid to warring countrys.
  • Canada-Soviet Hockey Series

    The 8th and final game was a tie until Paul Henderson scored a goal with only 3 seconds left in the game, winning the series for Canada.
