Canada's External Relations

  • Confederation

    This was the union of the British North American colonies. It formed Canada, but not the Canada we klnow today but a Canada which composed of four provinces. These provinces or areas were New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Upper/Lower Canada.
  • Treaty of Washington

    This treaty was signed by the U.S. and the British empire to eliminate all disputes from the past. This made way for new relations with Canada's neighbour, and Canada could be free from the grudges held by the U.S. against Britain.
  • National Policy

    This was a tariff protection for Canadian manufacturers
  • Klondike Gold Rush

    Discovery of Gold in Canada. It created a frenzy gold rush immigration. brought alot of speculation to Canada and the Canadian North West.
  • Naval Service Act

    This brought and established the Royal Canadian Navy. This was a small navy that was under the control of the Canadian government.
  • Canadian Expeditionary Force

    This was a force of troops from all over Canada fighting for one united country.
  • Battle of Vimy Ridge

    Canada fought in world war one and won balles such as the ballt of vimy ridge. Canadians attacked on 9 April 1917, They were attacking together (first time the Canadians attacked together) They achieved victory, taking the Germans off the ridge.
  • Resolution IX

    Prime Minister Borden in 1912 told the British that Canada would now expect to have "a voice" in Impirial policy. It wasnt until 1917 that during the Imperial War Confrence that Resolution IX was passed and it recognized the self-governing part of the British Empire to have its own say in Britains decisions.
  • League of Nations

    Canada joined the League of Nations because they signed the Treaty of Versailles. They would not have joined if it wasnt for the soldiers sacrifice. This showed the world we were a proud country that could defend our land,
  • Treaty of Versatilles

    This was a the peace settlement imposed on Germany to end military actions against them in World War one. The treaty would bring official peace between Germany and all the Allies, Also in addition to these things Canada's prestige was increased when Canada was represented on the British Empire delegation.
  • National External Policy

    The National External Party allowed Canada to have more say with what goes on during the war. After conscription had caused a lot of upset Prime Minister McKenzie King decided to implement the policy.
  • Statue of Westminster

    This was a law passed by Britain which gave Canada as much legislative power as our country thought was needed.
  • Canada-US Automotive Products Agreement

    A free-trade agreement signed by Canada and the US in 1965 to create a single North American market for passenger cars, trucks, buses, tires and automotive parts.
  • Signing of Constitution

    On this day, Canada sign the constitution which included the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The constitution was Trudeaus attempt at creating one united country. Everyone signed but Rene Levesque, the Premier of Quebec.
  • North American Free Trade Agreement

    This was an agreement which put Canada into a new friendship with the U.S. and Mexico. It allowed much more importing and exporting of Canadian goods, here in North America and globally. It also allowed for much more American investments.
