Fun fact: Annie Nathan Meyer, responded to her refusal to Columbia University for being a woman by opening Barnard College. Columbia's deceased president argued for the failure to allow women admission to Columbia. His name was Barnard. Name sound familiar?

As Longino entered the scientific community she did not enter softly. Due to her position on the role of social values in scientific theory, as discussed in her first book, Science as Social Knowledge, she contends that social values cannot be removed from scientific theories.
