The cause for the war to start includes conflicting political ideologies of imperialism and republicanism and tensions between two leaders. After the first Boer War, the British government still had determination for uniting South Africa under British rule.

    Anglo Japanese Alliance
    Alliance between Japan and British in order to allign themselves to prevent the Russian expansion. In response, Russia sought to form alliances with Germany and France, which Germany declined. France was unable to come to Russia’s aid that means going to war with Britain.
  • Entente Cordiale

    Entente Cordiale
    France and Britain signed an entente (treaty) which was a nonbinding agreement to follow common policies. Though not as formal as a treaty, it lead to close military and diplomatic ties. Britain later signed a similar with Russia and when war began the power became known as the allies.
