  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The French and Indian war began in 1754. It drained the British treasury which resulted in King George III and his advisers forcing taxes on the colonists by passing the Stamp Act and the Sugar Act. The colonists said "NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION" which prompted British parliament to repeal the stamp act, but then pass the Declaratory Act which stated that they had complete authority over the colonies.

    Stamp and Sugar tax
    Because of the French and Indian War a lot of money was drained from the British Treasury. King George III and his advisers thought that the colonists should help pay for these wars. They began to come up with ways to start taxing the colonists such as the Sugar act, taxing imports, and the Stamp act which taxed on newspapers and pamphlets. This resulted in many of the colonists becoming angry and leading them to perform events such as the Boston Massacre and the Boston tea party.
  • The American Revolution

    The American Revolution
    An armed conflict broke out in Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts which started the mark of the American Revolution. They barely won any battles against the British army which lead to the colonists becoming divided.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    In an attempt to become free from Britain the Second Continental Congress took a momentous step by voting for Independence. They formed a document that reflects John Locke's ideas of government obligation and protecting natural right. They called it the Declaration of Independence. Listed the idea of popular sovereignty and the idea that all power comes from the people. With this they made a new democracy.
