    Rous discovers tne first cancer causing virus. This was important to help find a cure to cancer.

    An antibiotic medicone peniccillin is produced in mass microbes for the first time. This was for delivery to Allied troops in WW2

  • Method for producing monoclonal antibodies developed by Köhler and César Milstein.

  • Patented Organisms are allowed to happen.

    The Exxon oil company developed a patented organism to creat oil eating microbes. These useful oil eating microbes were used to clean up the oil spills in the ocean that destroyed the aquatic life. This was around the similar time the exxon valdez crashed and spilled gallons of oil into the ocean around alaska.
    I found this interesting because it is an innovative way to clean up the waste we have in our ocean and save the species in the ocean from dying off.

    Inteferon is a cancer curing solution produced through biotech. The solution consists of interferon proteins which are manufactured using biotech. These useful proteins upon entering the body modulate the body's responses to many harmful diseases including cancer.
    I found this interesting because it is basically using human engineered proteins to cure a disease. If we made more drugs like this. it would make a big difference.

    This helped farmers produced more milk and make more profit. This helped the dairy industry do better.

    A sheep is cloned. This was the first cloning of an animal.

    Many sweet potatoes were infected with viruses. The genetically engineered sweet potato made it easier to get sweet potatoes uninfected.

    Gene targeted drug is approved for the first time. This drug helps people with lukemia.

    This is used to help poor or developing countries grow crops.

    The biotech crops at this time are growing by a lot. This proves biotech is a success.
