    The first world war started in 1914, but America didn't join until April 6, 1917. President Woodrow Wilson wanted America to stay neutral with this war, but German U-boats sunk the Lusitania killing many Americans. This changed Americans' opinions, thus causing them to join the fighting in 1917. World War I would end a year later, in 1918.

    On August 18, 1920, the nineteenth amendment was ratified. This amendment is crucial because it allowed for women to vote.

    The Great Depression began in August 1929 and lasted until March 1933. This was a terrible economic decline caused by the stock market crash of 1929. From here, banks closed, and many people lost their jobs.
