Book written by Harriet Beacher Stowe, that completely amazed people with her description of the life of a slave. -
Kansas/Nebraska Act
This was a bill that allowed slavery by popular sovereighty. -
Bleeding Kansas
People who were both for and against slavery all gathered to live in Kansas to vote on if Kansas was going to be a slave or a free state. In this period of time a lot of violence happened and Kansas ended up being a free state. -
Dred Scott Decision
Dred went to the Supreme Court to try and get his freedom, but was denied because property can't sue. -
Lincoln Douglass Debate
Lincold and Douglas had seven total debates and most of which were about slavery. -
John Brown's Raid
John Brown raided Harper's Ferry with an army of 18 men in the hopes of creating a major slave rebellion. -
Lincoln Elected/ Election 1860
Lincoln was elected even though his name was not on the ballot in some southern states. -
Secession of South Carolina
South Carolina opposed Lincoln's election and voted to breakaway. They were the first Southern state to breakaway because they didnt want to be a part of the U.S.
