  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    These surprise victories against the British made the war seem winnable.
    The British wanted to capture Paul Revere and William Dawes.
    These two men were sent as messengers to warn the militia.
    The British Killed 90 militiamen in these encounters.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    On April 16 1000 colonists under Colonel William Prescott to fight the British. The colonists were forced to retreat after three attacks by the British troops and lack of ammunition. By the end of the battle the British lost 200 with around 800 wounded whilst the colonists lost 100 men with around 300 more wounded. The most famous death was that of General Joseph Warren, an American patriot.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Battle of Trenton
    This battle was lead by George Washington. He and his men traveled across The Delaware River on boats to attack the Hessian forces at Trenton. Washington decided to split his troops on the way as a flanking maneuver to overcome them from different sides. Washington's men were able to take out the Hessian forces, but couldn't hold the reinforcements that the British sent, and had retreat.
  • Battle of Fort Ticonderoga

    Battle of Fort Ticonderoga
    In May of 1777, the militia going by the name of The Green Mountain Boys attacked at dawn to surprise the British. This victory, while small, was the first American victory in the revolutionary war and gave them many useful resources. This militia was run by Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen and had a little over 100 troops. With this victory, the colonists took many needed artillery that made many future battles possible.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    The battle of Saratoga took place in Saratoga, New York in October of 1777. The battle of Saratoga was a two part battle, the British moved in after taking back Fort Ticonderoga at a slow pace, letting the Americans prepare. Once there the British won the first part, and went on to attack again but was quickly forced to retreat. This battle became know as the turning point of the Revolution because the French became allies with America making them a lot stronger.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The Battle of Yorktown was a one of the most significant victories in the Revolutionary war because General Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington. Luckily, the French has just moved out to the Chesapeake Bay, just like Cornwallis. The battle of Yorktown ended when Washington encircled Cornwallis' troops with his own and the French blocked him by sea, forcing him to surrender.
