    On September 1, 1939 Germany invaded Poland. This led to Great Britain and France to declare war on the German Nazis
  • Pearl Haror

    Pearl Haror
    On December 7, 1941 Japanese airplanes flew in to Pearl Harbor and shot and bombed the US navy harbor. It killed 2,403 US soldiers and injured 1,178. It destroyed 6 US ships and 169 US planes. This was the day that the US officially joined World War 2.

    The Manhattan Project was the research and development of the first atomic bomb. It was led by the United States.
  • Bombing on Hiroshima

    Bombing on Hiroshima
    The United States kept telling Japan that the need to give unconditional surrender. Japan kept ignoring the US. On July 26, the US gave Japan their last chance to surrender, or they would they would receive "prompt and utter destruction". Japan ignored this. So on August 6, the US dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. It killed between 90,000 and 146,000 people.
  • Bombing on Nagasaki

    Bombing on Nagasaki
    After the first atomic bomb, Japan would still not give unconditional surrender. They wanted to be able to keep their emperor, but the United States said that was not and option. So the US dropped a second atomic bomb on Nagasaki. This bomb killed between 39,000 and 80,000 people.
  • Japan surrendered

    Japan surrendered
    On August 15, 1945 Hirohito, the japanese emperor, announced their surrender. Japan decided to surrender because the knew that if the did not, the United STates would keep dropping atomic bombs on them.
  • World War 2 officially ends

    World War 2 officially ends
    By this time, Germany had already surrendered and Japan had just surrendered.
