  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
This act is important because it declared separate schools for black and white students as unconstitutional. Allowing everyone equal rights is important, which is why I chose this historical event. All children would have the same opportunity, no matter their skin color. The integration of classrooms also allowed students to better understand each other, learn about other cultures and races. The Brown v Board of education was the first stepping stone for equal education.
  • PL 94-142; IDEA

    PL 94-142; IDEA
The Public Law 94-142 allowed children with disabilities a free and appropriate public education and have special education services available to them. Allowing all children equal access to school and education and accepting all is important, which is why I chose this as an important historical event. Integrating classrooms, allows for all to feel welcomed. This has lead to the development of the IDEA, IEP’s, LRE’s, RTI’s.
  • Innovations

    Innovations
Recent innovations such as technology and virtual education have greatly impacted my life. First, technology allows for different types of learning. For me, I am a hands on learner and using computers/ smart boards etc allowed me to better learn. Technology is continually growing and is important for students futures. Technology has allowed for me and many others to pursue their dreams and passions, through online courses, which allows for all to learn no matter their location and career.
  • No Child Left Behind

    No Child Left Behind
No child left behind as states in Ch 5 is “seeking equity and excellence.” Making sure schools have highly qualified teachers is important and allows for better student outcomes. Making sure all students are given the best education possible is key for learning outcomes. Testing teachers to make sure they meet the standards will allow for better education for students.
  • Race to the Top

    Race to the Top
Race to the Top is important because it allows for higher school standards, improves teacher effectiveness and helps implement new strategies for schools that are struggling. This has helped with the achievement gap and has increased graduation and college enrollment rates.
