[source](www.famousscientists.org/friedrich-wohler/)It was long believed that inorganic and organic matter were wo very different types of matter. You could not use inorganic matter to make organic matter, and once organic matter became inorganic, it could not go back to being organic. This was called the theory of vitalism. however, scientiest Friedrich Wohler proved this wrong by making urea with cynate and amnomia solution. This lead to more experiments agianst the theory of vitalism, even though his experiment was techinically wrong.

Friedrich Miescher is the first to identify dna as its own molecule.
-
The structure of dna is discovered by James D. Watson and Frances H.C. Crick. Much of the research on this was also done by Maurice WIlkins. Because of this, science could now explore many new things such as hte ability to identify hman remains or a rational design for treatments for certain diseases

Decades after chemical dna was discovered, the chmists discovered methods of sythesizing dna. One of the earilest of these includes a biochemist Gobind Khorana (as shown in the image) making a syntheisis of a 75 base pair double stranded dna. This was followed by the first man made functional gene out of e. coli.
-
In the 1980s, dna synthesis went through rapid transformation when activated nucleosides became available. This made for easier dna sythesis as
-
The first infecticous organism, poliovirus, is sythesized. This was the largest dna ever syntesized at the time.
-
The largest ever organism to be synthesized has been synthesized, although it wasn't brought to life yet

As viruses develop, gene therapies develop. If viruses can be devolped that can give cells healhty dna, we may be able to cure diseases like cancer or alzhiemers. With the progress we are making now, anything is possible.
