The colonists left England in hopes of Religious freedom and some say for economic opportunites. Before landing on Plymoth they signed the Mayflower compact which is the first sign of Colonists running a government on their own.

The Duthc by Manhattan Island and settle it as a trading colony. When the Dutch lost this Island to the English, the English treated it the same way. It became very powerful very quickly and is now the New York we know today.
