  • Korean War

    Korean War
    The Korean War was a war between North and South Korea, seeing who would win, North Korea (communism) & South Korea (capitalism) and a proxy war between the U.S and the USSR. This war lasted for 3 years, relatively short compared to the Vietnam War. The US entered the war because of its policy of containment, they couldn't let communism spread.   • Brown V. Board of Education

    Brown V. Board of Education
    Supreme Court ruling that says that the separate but equal doctrine was not true, and the doctrine was overruled. Directly related with Key Concept 8.2B, where the Civil Rights movement used the 3 branches of government to their advantage.   • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    A 20 year war of North Vietnam and Southern Vietnam, representing communism & capitalism. Fights were mostly guerilla warfare, with airstrikes and usually surprise attacks. Referred to in Key Concept 8.1B, was another proxy war between the US and the Soviet Union.   • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a standoff between the US and Soviet Union, starting from the US cutting off ties with Cuba, and escalated after the US discovered missile bases being made secretly by the Soviet Union. Led to a compromise where the US & the USSR both removed their missiles from their respective locations (US had theirs located in Turkey). Key

  • I Have A Dream Speech

    I Have A Dream Speech
    Martin Luther King Jr. delivers his "I Have A Dream" speech, speaks about civil rights, and how people cannot live in peace just because of the color of their skin. Addressed in Key Concept 8.2A, he used his political clout to influence the government, like JFK.   • Assassination of JFK

    Assassination of JFK
    The assassination of JFK left the nation stumbling, but afterwards, it led to more issues finding middle ground, like Civil Rights, but also started a line of confusion in office, starting with LBJ and going to Nixon, with those two resigned. Key Concept 8.2F also supports that a big reason he was assassinated was because of his stance on civil rights.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Civil Rights Act of 1964
    One of the biggest acts in US History, because of the influence the movement had on the government (Key Concept 8.2B) it made it so that it wasn't allowed to discriminate based off of race, sex, religion or national origin.   • Watergate Scandal

    Watergate Scandal
    The Watergate Scandal was a scandal that involved Nixon's workers, who broke into Watergate hotel to find valuable Democratic information on the election to win the election. Broke trust of millions of Americans on the president, especially in the executive branch. Key Concept 8.2D refers to this as well.
  • Roe v. Wade

    Roe v. Wade
    Roe v. Wade said that women could legally have abortions during the first trimester. This topic is still very controversial, but was huge for women rights, allowing for them to decide what they do with their bodies.   • Iran Hostage Crisis

    Iran Hostage Crisis
    The Iran Hostage Crisis was when Iranian Islamics took American diplomats under hostage for 2 years, and although Carter was in presidency, it showed that his foreign policy management wasn't very strong, increasing doubt in the government from the public, justified by Key Concept 8.2E.
  • AIDS Outbreak

    AIDS Outbreak
    The AIDS outbreak was an outbreak of HIV and AIDS, diseases that slowly destroys your autoimmune system, and was mainly focused on in the 1980s. Key Concept 8.3B references this as the outbreak was spread because of the newer generations becoming more open sexually, having sex before marriage.
  • Iron-Contra Affair

    Iron-Contra Affair
    The Iron-Contra Affair was an affair between terrorists in Lebanon & the US government, where because the government failed to obtain the hostages the terrorists held, they gave them missiles and arms in exchange for money and the hostages. Although some of Reagan's main points were in war power (Key Concept 9.3A) he still gave away valuable weaponry to the opposition, and then used the money received on a civil issue in Nicaragua.
