  • Battle of New Orleans

    In 1815, Andrew Jackson was declared a war hero for winning the Battle of New Orleans against the British.
  • Jacksonian Democracy

    Beginning in 1824, Jackson fought for the rights of the white man known as the Jacksonian Democracy.
  • Election of 1824

    John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson went up against each other for the title of president in 1824, which Jackson accused Adams and Henry Clay of making a "corrupt bargain", so Adams would win.
  • Nullification Crisis

    In 1828, Congress raised the tax on imported goods.The southern states wanted to nullify this tariff. After a crisis broke out there was a "compromise tariff" which allowed Jackson to slowly lower the tax.

    From 1828 to 1836 Jackson used the Spoils System, which is replacing government officials with His own supporters
  • Indian Removal Act

    in 1830 Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act which let Jackson relocate Indians west of the Mississippi River, so he could have their land.
  • Worcester v. Georgia

    In 1832, the Cherokee sued the sued the state of Georgia for trying to relocate them. They won and Jackson said," John Marshall made his decision".
  • War on The Bank

    In 1832, Jackson vetoed the renewal of The US Bank's charter declaring war on the Bank, which he thought was trying to kill him. Jackson decided to kill it first by withdrawing all deposits and putting them in smaller state banks.
  • Panic of 1837

    After The War on the Bank in 1832 Jackson sent he nation into a panic. This caused a major depression in which many people lost their jobs.
  • Trail of Tears

    In 1838 the US sent the Cherokee west to Oklahoma on what is known as the Trail of Tears, which many Cherokee died.
