In 1824, four democractic-republican candidates competed for the presidancy in the U.S. Jackson recieved the popular vote, but Adams became president. This was called the Corrupt Bargain. -

When Jackson was president, he fired 20% of the federal officials and put in his own supports that helped him during the election of 1828. This was known as the spoils system. -
