    Jackson was born between North and South Carolina. Both states claim he was born in their state. His father died before his birth and his mother died when he was 14 leaving him an orphan.

    At age 13 Jackson joined the local militia as a courier. This was during the American Revolutionary War. WHen US declared war on Britain, Jackson earned the nickname Old Hickory.

    In Alabama, Major Andrew Jackson defeated the Creek Indians who wanted to stay on their land. The battle was called Horseshoe Bend because there was a river in the area in the shape of a horse shoe.

    Worcester vs Georgia was a Supreme court case in which Mr. Worcester believed his tribe was being moved off its home land unconstitionally and Georgia wanted to move the indians west so settlers could expand. John Marshal decided the indians were allowed to stay where they lived.

    This event was caused by the Tariff of 1828 which taxed imported goods. South Carolina declared the tariff illegal by passing the Nullification Act. Henry Clay resolved this crisis with a compromise.
