The British then continued into Concord to search for arms, not realizing that the vast majority had already been relocated. They decided to burn what little they found, and the fire got slightly out of control.

    King's Mountain took place on October 7, 1780 and was led by Major Patrick Ferguson, Col. Benjamin Cleveland, Col. Charles McDowell, and his brother Maj. Joseph McDowell, all from North Carolina. After a series of rendezvous—they were joined on the march by Maj. Joseph Winston and Col. James Williams. The defeat ended Cornwallis's attempts to rally significant Loyalist support, and he withdrew from his expedition into North Carolina.
