  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    A war between France and Great Britain over land in the Americas. It resulted in France being booted out and Britain trying to handle its enormous war debt. It was also the leading factor to the many unfolding events that caused the American Revolution like the proclamation line of 1763 or the new taxes. went from 1754-1763
  • Proclamation line of 1763

    Proclamation line of 1763
    After the French and Indian War this was instated to prevent colonists from settling past the Applachain Mountains or in the Ohio River Valley. This was infuriating considering this was a major reason for colonists fighting the war. Britain knew that if they allowed this it would be harder for them to control and would be much more costly and they couldn't handle this right after a war.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Also called the Revenue act it was passed by British Parliament it was an attempt at curving the Sugar and Molasses into the colonies and raise money after the war. It made life for Americans very difficult sense the British could not produce enough molasses to meet the colonists needs.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    An act formed by parliament to help support the war debt after the French and Indian war. This was one of the first of many and it infuriated the colonists because they were being taxed without representation. It required that all paper products be produced on stamp paper in Britain and taxed.
  • Boston "Massacre"

    Boston "Massacre"
    When Boston Colonists were harassing a group of British soldiers and in miscommunication they opened fire. Five Colonists were killed and it received major publicity. It gave the colonists even more reason to hate the British for they just inflicted violence upon their people.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A Protest by the Son of Liberty against the new Tea Act. They dressed as Indians and dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. This included patriot leader Samuel Adams and about sixty other men. They wanted to show you cannot tax the colonist without fair and equal representation.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    Also known as the coercive acts they were passed after the Boston Tea Party. It was a way for Parliament to punish the Boston colonists for the protest. They included the Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts government act, the Administration of Justice Act, Quartering act and the Quebec Act.
  • Boston Blockade

    Boston Blockade
    Also known as the Boston Port act it was one of the intolerable acts instated by parliament. It was passed to ensure that Boston harbor would remain closed until the tea sellers were reimbursed. The only thing they could do was receive food and wood.
  • Continental Congress

    Continental Congress
    The first meeting of the continental congress was in Philadelphia. Congressional delegates came and discussed further action involving the coercive acts. They concluded that their should not be any taxation without representation and every colonist had right to life, liberty and property.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
    Produced during the second continental congress it was the first drawn up document of the new government of the United States. It was written by Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Samuel Adams as well as many others. Its Purpose was to define and organize the new country that they were declaring to be independent
