  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    Great Britain, France, and Spain all had North American colonies. The claim of each European power over lapped American Indian involvement.
  • Proclamation

    Proclamation
    After Pontiac's Rebellion, the British issued the proclamation which allowed them to control the colonies. Reserved land west of the Applachian Mountain for the American Indians, but it was ignored by the colonies.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Was a British attempt to raise money from the colonies by taxing sugar and molasses which would push the colonies to pay higher taxes. The result was increase of tension meaning it brought issues with taxes without representation.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Taxed all papers pamphlets, newspapers and cards. The importance was parliaments first attempted to raise money through direct taxation. Colonies protested that the Stamp Act was to expensive, inconvenient and unfair.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    Is a name given to a minimum of two Acts of British Parliament in the local governments of the American colonies to provide the British soldiers with any needed accommodations and housing. It also required colonists to provide food for any British soldiers in the area.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    British placed taxes on imports of lead, paper, glass, paint and tea. Forced colonies to pay taxes and those who didn't were punished. Colonist began to boycotts and protest.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Fighting broke out between so ideas and colonies. The massacre became a rallying point for anti- British feelings.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The purpose of the tea act was to help the East India Tea Company overcome financial problems. Colonists have been buying smuggled tea to avoid buying British tea and paying taxes. Colonist join the sons of liberty as a responds.
  • Boston Tea Party

    More than 100 people participated in a protest against the Tea Act. They dumped 45 tons of tea into the harbor.
  • Intolerable Act

    Boston port Bill- Administration of justice Act- Massachusetts Government Act- Housing of British troops.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    Represented by 12 colonists, called for a boycott of British goods. It resulted as a declaration of rights life, liberty, property and trial by jury.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    Minutemen met the British on Lexington Green, shots were fired and after resistance faded, the British moved on to concord. The British discovered and destroyed weapons on concord. British retreated after meeting resistance. The Revolutionary War was underway.
