    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    First shots fired between American and British armies. Thomas Gage (a general in Boston) was ordered to attack and capture the town on Concord. The first shot is known as the "shot heard 'round the world". Both sides opened fire, Americas were forced to draw.

    George Washington named Commander in Chief
    George Washington was the first president of the US. He also fought for the British in the French and Indian war and commanding office of the AMerican forces.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    Battle lasting two days between British and American forces. The americans occupied Breed's Hill on June 16th and the british attacked the next day. The Americans fired until they ran out of ammunition and retreated quickly.
  • Declaration of Independence adopted

    Declaration of Independence adopted
    A document declaring the independence of the 13 Colonies from Great Britain. It was written by Thomas Jefferson and signed by many important Americans like Samuel Adams and John Hancock. The response was continuing the war.

    Cornwallis surrounded by American and French; surrenders at Yorktown
    Yorktown was the American victory that ended the war. British Genreal Charles Cornwallis had met defeat in the south so he sent his troops forward to Yorktown. Cornwallis was being surrounded, he stood and fought but the Americas won the battle.

    The treaty that officially ended the American Revolution, signed in Paris by Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and John Jay. Britain agreed to remove all troops from US. The Treary also set new borders.
