The British closed the port of Boston until damages were paid (tea). The British reduced colonial government power, and the colonists didn't like this act -
1st Continental Congress
The colonies stopped all trade with Britain, and this angered them because the colonists weren't trading with them. The whole reason they were over in the colonies was to make money and bring things back to Britain, but the colonists were stopping all trade with Britain, so this didn't go over well.
