    French and Indian war
    The French and Indian war was started by the French being driven out of land by George Washington. The war ended with the treaty of Paris. It made England the worlds greatest colonial/political power.

    The proclamation of 1763 was a declaration from the king, it stated that no one can go past an imaginary line across the Appalachian mountains. The colonists were angry. They fought for the land, why couldn’t they use it?
  • The Quartering act

    The quartering act was a law passed by parliament that forced colonists to pay to house troops in the colonies. The colonists were angered and New York’s assembly refused to pay some taxes. As a result the British government dissolved the New York assembly until they obeyed the quartering act.
  • The stamp act

    The stamp act
    The stamp act was a tax that was placed on paper. The tax required that colonists had to buy a stamp for every piece of paper they buy. The didn’t have a representative for the colonists in parlement, the were taxed without representation. The colonists decided to boycott the paper sales till there was a repeal.
  • The townshed act

    The townshed act
    The townshed act, named after Charles Townshed, was an indirect tax on goods. Paper,paint,lead,glass and tea were all taxed when they were imported from England. Colonist felt this was another case of taxation without representation. The result was colonists boycotted goods that were apart of the tax till there was a repeal.

    The Boston massacre was when a group of redcoats firing at a crowd of colonists. The patriotic perspective was that the colonists were innocent, which helped people’s anger grow at the event. They thought the army was the enemy and that the government was not protecting them.
  • The Boston tea party

    The Boston tea party
    The government decided to have a monopoly on tea. The colonists wanted choices. Sons of liberty dressed as native Americans and boarded a tea ship and threw tea overboard. This was the Boston tea party.
  • First continental congress

    First continental congress
    Delegates from 11 of the 13 colonies met in Philadelphia at independence hall to decide how to react to the intolerable acts. They decided to:
    1. Ban all trade with Britain till an repeal on the intolerable acts was presented
    2. Start trading troops to form militias
    As a result the colonies began to unite.
  • The intolerable acts

    The intolerable acts
    As punishment for the Boston tea party parliament passed a set of laws. The three laws were:
    1. Boston Barbour was closed till the tea was paid for
    2. Massachusetts government would now be under British control
    3. Soldiers put on trial for murder will now be tried in Britain,not in the colonies
    As a result the first continental congress formed
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    Militias faced off with the redcoats. The Americans lost the first battle at Lexington but stood their ground in Concord and defeated the British army.
