French and Indian War
The French and Native Americans teamed up to fight against England. This is because the English Colonies kept trying to take more land from French territory. Although, they teamed up they were no match for the British army. This all leads to the English taxing the colonists. -
Proclamation of 1763
England banned settlement further than the Appalachians. This is because the British wanted to avoid conflict with the natives. Then, the Colonists ignored the proclamation. This led to conflict of the collapse and the British. -
Sugar Act
The British were trying to stop the smuggling of sugar and molasses in the colonies. Also, it was the first law passed by Parliament to raise money for England from the colonies. This led to protests and and anger among the Colonists. -
Stamp Act
The British were in immense debt and needed a way to get pour of it. This act made stamped paper or affixing of stamps had to be taxed. This caused an uproar in the colonies. -
Quartering Act
This act forced colonists to give food and shelter to British troops. This angered the colonists because they thought it was very unfair -
Townshend Acts
England started taxing glass, white lead, paper, paint and most importantly tea fairly heavily. The Colonists refused to pay these taxes because they had no representation in England and felt this was unfair. This led to the Boston Tea Party. -
Boston Massacre
The British were trying to stop tea from being smuggled so a lot of troops were in the colonies. Then, the colonists started a riot. After that, a fight ensued between the British soldiers and the colonists. During the brawl Crispus Attucks was killed. -
The Boston Tea Party
The Colonists dumped 342 boxes of tea into the Boston Harbor. This is because England was so deep in debt that they started taxing the Colonists. This was the first major defiance of the British from the colonies. This led to the colonies rallying together to try and gain independence -
Intolerable Acts
Parliament passed laws to chastise the Colonists. It closed the port until the damages from the Boston Tea Party were paid for. Also, it angered the Colonists because of the Quartering Act. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
Parliament rejected the Congress’s petitions. This was the first battle of the revolution. This battle was at Lexington and Concord because a commander wanted to seize stores of gunpowder. Also, it had the “Shot Heard Around the World” which is said to be the first shot fired in the Revolution.
