  • Navigation Acts 1663

    The Navigation Acts were laws passed by England to maintain control over colonial trade. The acts made colonists buy English goods and limited trade between the colonies and other countries.
  • Writs of Assistance 1761.

    British officers used the Writs of Assistance as ways to increase their power over the Colonists. The writs were originally made to battle smuggling in the colonies, British officers began to use the powers granted to them in the Writs of Assistance to create more pressure on the Colonists.
  • Treaty of Paris 1763

    The document that ended the war between the British and French that was fought over the Ohio River Valley. This treaty ended French power in North America and expanded British territory and British debt.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    After the French and Indian War, in 1763, the British passed the Proclamation stating that the colonists could not move west of the Appalachian Mountains. They couldn't be protected from the Indians that lived there.
  • Sugar Act1764

    Parliament passed the Sugar Act, which was a tax on sugar, wine, indigo, and molasses. It also stated that those caught smuggling would be subject to trial without jury. The act was passed to create money to pay for the upkeep of British territories but it was unpopular because colonists had to import all products that they could not make or grow themselves.
  • Stamp Act Congress 1765

    The Stamp Act imposed a tax on all paper documents in the colonies came at a time when the British Empire deep were in debt from the seven year war and looking to its North American colonies as a revenue source.
  • Stamp Act 1765

    The Stamp Act was a tax imposed by the British government on the American colonies. The Stamp Act established on colonial residents went further than the existing ones. The main goal was to raise money needed for military defenses of the colonies.
