  • Proclamation of 1763

    Parliament's attempt to deny the colonists access to western lands after the French and Indian war. Trying to avoid conflict.

    The British made the colonists house the troops in order to save money. This angered the colonists because they didn't want them there in the first place.

    Act that required a governnt tax stamp on all legal documents, such as contracts and licenses.

    A seies of four laws declaring its authority over the colonies.
  • The Boston Massacre

    British troops quartered in Boston opened fire after being harassed b an angry mob of colonists. Five colonists died.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Tea Act taxed the colonists' tea and so they went and dumped merchant ship's tea into the harbor.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    A series of laws, the Coercive Acts, to punish the rebellious colonists.
  • First Continental Congress

    Delegates of colonies met to discuss freedom.
  • Lexington and Concord

    700 British Troops advance toward Concord to sieze the military supplies.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    The first major battle of the Revolutionary War. British won but the battle encouraged the colonists' resistance.
  • The Battle of Saratoga

    The turning point of the war. American victory. Convinced France to support the American cause
  • The Battle at Yorktown

    Washington's opportunity to trap Cornwallis. Lasted about 3 wks, Cornwallis surrendered.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    In it, Britain formally recognized the US as an independent nation.
