  • Treaty Of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris was a document that ended the French and Indian War. The French had to give up their power in North America and the Britain expanded to the Mississippi river.
  • Proclamation Line

    The Proclamation Line was meant to keep the natives and colonists from fighting. It kept the colonists from going west over the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Pontiac's Rebelllion

    Pontiac's Rebellion was a rebellion led by Chief Pontiac that took over several small forts. It was meant to drive the British out of the French lands.
  • Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act lowered the tax of sugar from 6 pence to 3 pence. The British lowered the tax on sugar so the colonists would actually pay the tax and buy it.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act required all colonists to purchase stamps to mark every single one of their papers. The stamps were taxed and had to be put on all paper including playing cards.
  • Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act required all colonists to house British soldiers and provide them with supplies. The colonists had to pay for everything and got nothing out of it. This was so the British soldiers could check for anything unusual and/or illegal.
  • Writs of Assistance

    The Writs of Assistance were search warrants that made it legal for British soldiers to search any property at any time. This was made to catch smugglers and people doing illegal things.
  • Declaratory Act

    The Declaratory Act said the British government had supreme authority to govern the colonies. This was to remind the colonists the British were in charge and they had the King's orders to follow.
  • Townshend Acts

    The Townshend Acts taxed the goods before they got into the colonies. It hid the taxes from the colonists so they wouldn't get mad.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was when colonists were shouting and throwing things at soldiers. The colonists dared the soldiers to fire, which they eventually did. Five people ended up dying.
  • Tea Act

    The Tea Act was when Britian's East India Company was given a monopoly on tea. This meant they could sell the tea for cheaper but there was still a tax on it.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was a rebellion against Britian's Tea Act. The Sons of Liberty joined together and went onto three ships with tea on them and dumped it all into the ocean.
  • First Continental Congress

    The first continental congress met in September of 1774 in Philadelphia. It had all thirteen colonies except for Georgia.
  • Coercive Acts

    The Coercive Acts were a series of laws that were meant to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. Four of these laws included the Boston Port Act, the Massachusettes Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act, and the Quartering Act.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the start of the revolutionary war. The British won the first war in Lexington, but the colonists won the second in Concord.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    The Battle of Bunker Hill was when the British attacked the Minutemen on Breeds Hill. The British lost the first two attacks but eventually won the third
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Continental Congress sent a petition to restore peace between the colonists and England. The King rejected the petition and instead set out to "master" the colonies.
  • Second Continental Congress

    The second Continental Congress met on May 10th, 1775. They agreed to make an official army, named George Washington the general, and authorized printing of money to pay soldiers.
  • Common Sense

    Thomas Paine published a pamphlet called Common Sense. It explained how rulers were not chosen by Gods and explained the idea of independance.
  • Declaration of Independance

    The continental congress votes and signs a document called the Declaration of Independence. This says that they are breaking ties with Britian for many reasons, and it states them all.
  • Battle of Trenton

    The battle of Trenton happened in New Jersey and happened on Christmas Eve as a surprise attack. The troops were sleeping so they had an advantage and won.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The British troops were going to Albany, New York when they encountered American troops. After many days, the British eventually surrendered giving the Americans a win.
  • Winter at Valley Forge

    Washington retreated and made camp at Valley Forge. They suffered and were hungry and cold. Washington used this time to train soldiers. In 1778 they made their first alliance with France.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Washington's troops and the French navy and army fight against the British at Yorktown. They trap General Cornwallis and he eventually surrenders.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Two years later the Treaty of Paris is signed, making the British leave the colonial territories. This officially ends the American Revolution and the United States is free and independant of England.
